Findings show that 12 million parents exhibit signs of alcohol use disorder, while 6 million meet criteria for cannabis use disorder. Additionally, 3.4 million parents struggle with multiple substances, and 6 million children live with adults who also have co-occurring mental health conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McCabe emphasized the urgency of connecting affected families to treatment and early intervention programs. &#8220;The rise in these numbers underscores the need to mitigate risks for children,&#8221; he said. Vita McCabe, a co-author and addiction specialist, noted that effective treatments, such as medications for alcohol use disorder and therapy for cannabis dependence, are available but underutilized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study also revealed challenges in data collection due to potential budget cuts at the federal agency overseeing the survey, which could hinder future research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research underscores the far-reaching impact of parental substance use disorders on children\u2019s well-being. Experts call for expanded access to treatment and preventive measures to break the cycle of addiction.
